Winter Sweetz’ Top Three Grapefruit-Based DIY Beauty Treatments
While many people out there only think of grapefruits as a snack or basic ingredient for other dishes, they’re also particularly useful as a DIY beauty product. Grapefruits are packed with vitamin C, which is one of the top three most beneficial nutrients for personal skincare.
Winter Sweetz understands how versatile and useful our Texas Rio Red grapefruits are both as food and DIY skincare solutions. Whether they’re used in essential oils, skin scrubs, or face masks, red grapefruits can do absolute wonders for your skin, helping rejuvenate it and leaving you looking and feeling completely refreshed!
Of course, you should always test out any beauty product, DIY or store-bought, on a small patch of skin first in case of adverse reactions to any of the ingredients. However, as long as you take the proper precautions and avoid potential allergens, the result will be healthy, fresh skin.
Read on to learn about some of our favorite DIY skincare treatments, and don’t forget to place an order for plenty of red grapefruit!
Homemade Essential Oil With Grapefruit
As we mentioned, vitamin C is a key feature of any good DIY skincare routine as it’s one of the best nutrients out there for our skin. This is especially true when it comes to essential oils!
Not only is the aroma of grapefruit-based essential oils intoxicating, but it also offers a number of possible health benefits! These range from decreased blood pressure to restored pores and fresh-looking skin.
So, how exactly are essential oils made at home? All you need is a spoon, almond oil, a crockpot, cloth, and, finally, grapefruits:
- Thoroughly wash and peel your grapefruits.
- Use the spoon to scrape the white pith from the rinds.
- Allow the rinds to dry and then add them to a small crockpot.
- Cover the rinds with almond oil and turn the crockpot on low for eight or so hours.
- Line a bowl with a few layers of cloth and pour the oil and rind mixture over.
- Squeeze as much oil from the cloth as you’re able and store it for future use in air-tight containers.
Viola – you have vitamin C essential oil, and, if you want to take it a step further, add 20 drops of your concoction to melted beeswax and coconut oil to make an amazing perfume!
Just remember to never ingest the essential oils; they’re only for skincare purposes. Also, always test a small amount on your fingers before the face.
At-Home Grapefruit Sugar Scrub
Sugar scrubs are another great method of DIY skincare because they’re easy to make with a few simple ingredients. This at-home treatment also gives you total control over what you want to put into your sugar scrub!
Sugar scrubs are so beneficial because they both exfoliate dead skin and renew fresh skin cells. Grapefruits, in particular, are effective because the salicylic acid leaves skin baby-soft as it removes rough or cracked patches of skin.
What You’ll Need:
- ½ Texas Rio Red Grapefruit
- 3 tbsp of grapeseed or coconut oil
- Cup of sugar
How to Make:
- Juice the grapefruit into a bowl and add the sugar and oil.
- Mix and combine the ingredients with your hands or a spoon.
- After thoroughly mixing, apply the scrub to your skin.
You can also utilize a food processor to mix these ingredients more effectively. Just remember to get rid of any leftovers as this recipe calls for fresh grapefruit juice each time.
DIY Grapefruit Facial Mask
Most likely, you’ve seen either a family member or someone on TV wear a facial mask for the purpose of skincare. Even though they may look somewhat odd, they’re one of the tried and true DIY skincare treatments.
Grapefruit face masks are useful because they work wonders for your complexion and leave your face more refreshed than before. Not only will they make your skin glow, the sweet, citrusy aroma it leaves will no doubt turn some heads.
What You’ll Need:
- ½ Texas Rio Red Grapefruit
- ½ cup organic, plain yogurt
How to Make:
- Juice half of a grapefruit and combine with yogurt in a bowl.
- Apply a thin spread of the mask to the face area and leave for 10 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
In addition to the powers of vitamin C in grapefruit, the probiotics of the yogurt fight discoloration and skin damage.
