Tangy Grapefruit Lemonade!

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 ½ cups lemon juice, freshly squeezed (about 14 lemons)
  • 2 cups red grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed (about 3 large grapefruits)
  • Sliced grapefruits and lemons for garnish


  • Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and let it simmer until the sugar dissolves—about 10 minutes.
  • Pour the mixture into a pitcher and let it cool to room temperature.
  • Just before serving, stir in the fruit juices and sliced fruit. 

Satisfying Red Grapefruit Tea Sandwiches!

Little sandwiches are the perfect choice for any kind of picnic! Whether you’re sharing with a crowd, needing a little pick-me-up snack, or trying to tame a hungry toddler, try this delicious but filling grapefruit recipe

What You’ll Need:

  • 12 of your favorite yeast rolls
  • 12 slices of deli ham
  • 2 avocados, thinly sliced
  • 2 grapefruits, peeled and sectioned
  • Spring mix lettuce
  • ¼ cup spicy brown mustard

Making Sandwiches:

  • Slice the rolls horizontally and set the top part aside for a later step. Evenly spread the brown mustard on the bottom part.
  • Stack each roll with a slice of ham, avocado, grapefruit, and lettuce.
  • Return the roll tops to the sandwiches and use toothpicks to hold everything together. 

Rio Red Grapefruit Sandwich Cookies!

Cookies are the easiest sweets to serve at a picnic. No need for plates or utensils! Just open your Tupperware and serve these sweet grapefruit cookies; people will gobble them up in no time!

Cookie Ingredients:

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Texas grapefruit, zested
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup soft butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • ¼ cup red grapefruit juice, freshly-squeezed

Filling Ingredients:

  • ½ cup soft butter
  • 2 ¾ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Texas grapefruit, zested
  • 3 tablespoons red grapefruit juice, freshly-squeezed
  • pink gel food coloring, optional

Ready, Set, Bake:

  • Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl and set aside.
  • Add sugar and grapefruit zest in a stand mixer. Use your fingers to mix the zest and grapefruit until there are no clumps. 
  • Use a paddle attachment to cream the butter and sugar mixture until light and fluffy. 
  • Add in the egg yolks. 
  • On a low speed, alternate adding in a little bit of the flour mixture followed by grapefruit juice until all is combined. 
  • Pat the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  • Roll out the dough onto a floured countertop.
  • Cut the cookies to desired shape. Hint: If you don’t have cookie cutters, an upside-down cup works too!
  • Bake the cookies for 9 to 11 minutes. Let rest for two minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. 
  • For the filling, beat the butter, sugar, and grapefruit zest in a stand mixer until light and fluffy. Add in the juice and food coloring and beat for another two minutes.
  • Frost the bottom half of your cookies and place another cookie on top.
