National Nutrition Month is Sweeter with Winter SweetzTM
When we think of March, we think of beautiful spring days, shamrocks, and amazing days spent outside enjoying spectacular weather.
But there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to March; it’s also National Nutrition Month. This is a great month to concentrate on our health, especially if you’ve begun slacking a bit from your New Year’s resolutions. This is the time to focus on how we can make positive food choices and incorporate more physical activity into our daily routines.
Whether it be physical or mental, our health is important. The older we get, most of us miss our younger selves. We remember how it feels to run around easily or waking up without our bodies aching.
The beauty of it all is that we do have the ability to stay healthy and strong, no matter our age.
This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month is “Personalize Your Plate.” Due to everyone’s body being different and having different needs, there is no “one size plate fits all.” We need to be able to see what works best for our own bodies and not compare our needs to those of others.
While navigating what our body needs can be difficult, it isn’t impossible.
Simple Daily Changes You Can Make for a Healthier You, According to Harvard Health
1.Increase Your Mobility By 15 to 25 Minutes a Day
If you are new to exercise or haven’t exercised in a long while, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to start. While it can be intimidating to start, it’s vital to take that first step, but to also remember to take it easy on yourself.
When starting or continuing back on your health journey, recognize that everyone has started in the same place you’re at. You can begin by doing some simple activities for 15 to 25 minutes a day, such as walking.
Also, keep in mind that exercise isn’t something you should dread, but instead should love. Do something you enjoy every day, whether it be swimming, dancing, hiking, playing with your kids, or going for a bike ride. When you make it fun, it’ll be easier to stay motivated and to maintain your regiment.
2.Increase Water Intake
Believe it or not, only about 43 percent of adults drink four cups or more of water daily. Because water is so imperative for various body functions, drinking it should be a daily priority.
Baby steps are key to increasing your water intake. One way you can increase water intake is by using a water tracking app; there are numerous apps that help you keep track of how much water you’ve consumed.
Anzother way can be buying a 30 oz. water bottle. A good target is to finish the bottle by the end of the day.
3.Focus on Eating More Fruits and Vegetables
A simple way to eat more vegetables is to include them in every meal. By remembering to incorporate them in each meal, it’ll be easier to eat the recommended amount throughout the days versus having to eat all your veggies at once.
Fruits are a little easier to incorporate. You can choose to have fruits for a snack, dessert, or with one of your meals.
