Celebrate National Fresh #Fruit and #Vegetable Month with WinterSweetz! Click To TweetWinterSweetz™ encourages you to join in on the celebration, and if you’re looking for fun and refreshing ways to celebrate this year, count on the unique and sweet Texas Red grapefruit. Our profound love for the Texas Red grapefruit isn’t only due to its magical sweetness that we experience in every bite, but also the abundance of health benefits that derive from it.
For one, they’re very low in calories, which unequivocally makes grapefruits a great summer fruit for the whole family. Our exquisite Rio Red grapefruit is also jam-packed with natural vitamins and nutrients. They also support healthy skin complexion and even lower risks associated with a number of diseases and illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
In fact eating half of a fresh red grapefruit before a meal is known to improve insulin resistance, which is one reason why we find this citrus miracle in many wellness and weight loss programs.
At WinterSweetz™, we know that Texas grapefruit season is not at its peak at the moment, but we also know for a fact that it is peak season for cookouts.
Enjoy these delicious goodies at your next cookout:
GRAPEFRUIT AND ROSEMARY COCKTAIL
This refreshing cocktail involves two very small recipes.
What you’ll need for your rosemary syrup: 1 cup of water, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 3 sprigs of rosemary.
Rosemary Syrup Recipe: In a small saucepan, add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat. Dissolve the sugar for about 5 minutes. Don’t let the mixture boil otherwise crystals will form – and we don’t want that.
Once the sugar has dissolved, pour the simple syrup into a heat safe container. Add your 3 sprigs of rosemary and let it steep for at least one hour. Keep the syrup in your refrigerator for at least ten days.
Cocktail Recipe Per Glass: Add ½ cup of chilled and fresh Texas Red grapefruit juice into a serving glass. Then add 1 tablespoon or a ½ ounce of rosemary syrup, and stir. You can fill the remainder of the glass with sparkling water. Garnish your cocktail with a slice of grapefruit and a rosemary sprig.
GRAPEFRUIT AND PISTACHIOS APPETIZER
This is the perfect combination for a delicious and refreshing appetizer for a cookout.
What you’ll need for your appetizer: ¼ cup of Texas Red grapefruit juice, 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar, 2 Texas Red grapefruits, and 4 tablespoons of toasted pistachios, coarsely chopped.
Appetizer Recipe: In a small bowl, combine the grapefruit juice and light brown sugar. With a sharp knife, slice away peel and pith of the red grapefruits and cut them into thin rounds. Divide the grapefruit and sweetened grapefruit juice among 4 bowls. Lastly, top each with 1 tablespoon of pistachios.
It’s not too late to join in on the National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month celebration going on. WinterSweetz™ wants you to enjoy these refreshing recipes and stay healthy with delicious fruits and veggies this summer.
